As the sunshine pours through the windows and bathes everything in warm yellow light, it’s easy to forget that less than a month ago, the shop had been closed for 6 months. As the pandemic swept across the globe, our little haven of beautiful homewares and candles seemed somewhat insignificant in the greater scheme of things. However, as the spring sunshine thaws us all out in time for the restrictions to lift, we’ve absolutely loved welcoming you back into the shop to browse our lovely shelves.

Since the 12th of April, Annie and Victoria have taken up the mantle and have kept the shop looking beautiful, kept the shelves full and they’ve kept everyone chatting! Everyone who has visited us has been very gracious, respecting our precautionary measures to keep everyone as safe as possible too. We can’t thank you enough.

To celebrate our first couple of weeks, we managed to catch up with Annie and Victoria to ask what’s been really popular, what have been your favourite scents and, vitally, have they had any particularly lovely canine visitors…

As you might be able to predict, the spring has seen lots of interest in our more summery scents like Darjeeling and Tea Rose and Greenhouse.  Not only this, but as people enjoy longer, warmer evenings, we’re seeing lots of people choose diffusers over candles to scent their spaces.  There’s also been a bit of a rush on our stunning wool blankets, perfect for draping over your shoulders on a balmy evening outdoors.

Annie has also seen lots of people fall in love with our Vintage Linen Tea Towels, particularly those in indigo blue.  Whenever we can, we stock carefully chosen vintage items. Thoughtfully sourced and one of a kind, these special items keep things fresh and exciting in the shop, making sure it’s always lovely for you to browse. One lady was so taken by the Super Soft Baby Brush that she suggested she might need to consider having a baby just so that she’d have a justifiable use for it!

As growing season commences, there’s been lots of curiosity around the new Shell on Earth crushed whelk shells.  A beautiful and sustainable addition to your repotting schedule to keep your pot plants happy, well drained and beautiful, these chalky white shells aid water retention and are the perfect finishing touch to your plants.

On Tuesday, Victoria had the pleasure of meeting Muffin, Isobel’s new puppy. Muffin is a two-month old Cairn terrier and a firm favourite amongst the staff, passing shoppers, and the wider population of North Dorset.

Please do come and visit us in the shop, we’d love to meet you.  You’ll find us at 6 The Commons, Shaftesbury, Dorset. Too far away to visit in person? Browse our vast selection of candles, gifts and homewares online or give us a call if you can’t find what you’re looking for.
